The YMCA federation in England and Wales focus their work around providing critical foundations for a strong start for young people and a better quality of life in the community through many initiatives such as family and youth work, health and wellbeing, housing, and training and education. The YMCA was first created in 1844 when George Williams joined 11 friends in organising the first Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), a refuge of Bible study and prayer for young men. Today the charity has grown to reach 65 million people across 120 countries around the world regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background.

Managing Director of Eclipse Wholesale, James Drake said: “When I agreed to join Bluecube at this event, I never guessed it would be one of the coldest nights of the year, but the additional challenge somehow made the experience more realistic and highlighted why we need to support amazing organisations like YMCA in their work to address the root causes of homelessness.”

He added: “The event was superbly run by YMCA, it was great to feel part of a community, even if only for one evening, YMCA made all participants feel incredibly safe, a luxury those sleeping on the streets may not have, thank you YMCA, hopefully I can support the event in future years”.

The YMCA Sleep Easy has been running for 13 years now and has seen over 7,000 people sleep rough to raise over £1.5 million for local YMCA services. This year the Sleep Easy saw the return of in-person gatherings as well as providing support for people who wish to participate at home (sleeping anywhere other than your bed) or at a location of their choice.

The group have already hit their initial target and have currently raised over £1600 with the hope to exceed it even further. If you would like to donate or find out more about this amazing cause visit here
