You’ll find industry awards in the diaries of most marketing departments every year. They provide opportunities for networking, learning and gaining recognition across your sector or industry. Here at Eclipse Wholesale, we’ve been lucky enough to attend numerous industry award shows in recent years either as guests of our partners or as nominees in our right. Over time, we have developed a key strategy to ensure we get more than just a trophy out of these events. Here are our top tips to maximise your experience:
Research
Find out who is attending, nominees and key sponsors or speakers to help prioritise your time.
Review the agenda, looking at key times and locations so you don’t miss any vital moments (especially receiving your award!)
Plan
Familiarise yourself with the venue location, layout, parking and transport options to arrive early and avoid last-minute hassles.
Finally, dress to impress. Make sure you are aware of and understand the dress code so that you can make the best first.
Network
To network effectively, set goals and decide what you want to achieve. Are you looking to catch up with existing partners and customers, or are you looking to prospect and pick up new clients? Defining clear goals will allow you to achieve more in your time there.
Take advantage of the key networking moments before the ceremony starts and in between any breaks.
Make sure you exchange business cards with anyone you speak with so you can follow up later.
After a night of networking, catch up with all your new contacts in the following days. A simple email or LinkedIn message can help nurture new relationships and open up opportunities for future partnerships.
Content
Award shows provide the perfect opportunity to boost your company’s profile.
Plan your strategy and content around the event, knowing what kind of content you need from the night and scheduling any social media posts before, during and after.
Be photo-ready! To provide your team with valuable content, ensure you capture lots of team images, people you meet, partners and customers.
Share highlights from the night across social media and your website, making sure to tag all the people in your photos. Engage with the event’s social media coverage by commenting and sharing your experiences.
By following these tips, you can ensure that you get the most out of your award show experience, turning it into a valuable opportunity for growth and recognition for your company.
