We’re back with the final episode of Series 1 of Channel Corner with James Drake!
Following the success of our second annual partner event, our latest episode asks:
"Why are face-to-face events and meetings still so valuable?"
At our annual partner event, we brought together our partners, colleagues and vendors under one roof for an afternoon of insightful presentations, engaging panel discussions, customer case studies and a special live podcast recording.
So, it’s probably safe to say which side of the fence we’re on! James breaks down his thoughts on why getting people together in person is still so important in an increasingly digital world.
1. We’re human
With so much of our working lives now taking place online, it’s easy to forget that we’re social creatures. Teams calls, emails and instant messages are great for staying connected, but there’s still something different about sitting down with someone face-to-face, having a conversation and building a genuine relationship.
2. Away from the screen
Most of us spend a huge part of our working day looking at a screen, whether that’s a computer, mobile phone or tablet. Face-to-face meetings and events give us an opportunity to step away from our screens and actually spend time with customers, partners and vendors in person.
3. Opportunity to observe
You can learn a lot just by watching. Attending meetings and events gives you the opportunity to see how other people work, how they communicate and how other businesses approach things. You can also see what works, and what doesn’t, when it comes to running events, presenting ideas and engaging with an audience.
4. Goodwill of time
Taking the time to meet someone in person can go a long way. Whether it’s a customer, partner or supplier, giving someone your time shows that you value the relationship. A quick phone call or Teams meeting might get the job done, but making the effort to travel, meet face-to-face and spend time together can create a different level of goodwill.
5. No distractions
When you’re in the office or working from home, there are always distractions. Emails are coming in, your phone is ringing, someone needs your attention and there’s always another task waiting on your to-do list. At an event or face-to-face meeting, those distractions are reduced. Your focus is on the people in the room, the conversation you’re having and the event or meeting in front of you.
Technology has completely changed the way we communicate, virtual meetings have made it easier to connect with people wherever they are. But that doesn’t mean face-to-face has lost its value. For us here at Eclipse Wholesale, bringing people together remains an important part of building strong relationships, sharing ideas and growing together as a channel.
And that brings us to the end of Series 1 of Channel Corner with James Drake!
